Claude Monet lindi në një familje pariziene në 14 nëntor 1840 në Paris, por në moshën 5 vjeçare familja e tij shkoi në Normandi. Nëna e tij ishte këngëtare, kurse babai kishte një dyqan.
I ati dëshironte që Monet të vazhdonte biznesin e tij, por ai donte të bëhej artist.


[B][B]Impresionizmi i tij përfshin ngjyra të gjalla dhe lëvizjen e dritës[/B][/B].

Ai u martua me Camille Donsieux, së cilës i kushtoi një tablo që do të bëhej mjaft e famshme “Camille ose Gruaja me fustanin e gjelbër” në vitin 1866.
