The BlackBerry PIN number is a unique number that identifies a BlackBerry device. Almost like a Social Security Number. You can find the PIN number by going to Options > Status. Your PIN number will be displayed on that screen.

BlackBerry Messenger, or BBM, is an instant-messaging application found only on BlackBerry devices. Using each device's personal identification number, or PIN, BBM uses data for instant communication. This method is more discreet and can be less expensive than text messaging; there is no record of BBM on a wireless provider's bill aside from data used, and its use falls under the required BlackBerry data plan and is not counted as text messages. Adding a contact's PIN to BBM is as easy as asking.

Instructions

Request a connection. Open the BlackBerry Messenger application from the home screen. Press the menu key and select "Add a Contact." Enter the email or PIN of the person you want to connect with. On older devices, the address book may open. Highlight the contact whose PIN you want to add, then select the email address or PIN where you want your message sent. Review the note that will be sent, then choose "OK." Your contact will receive a BBM invitation and will have to accept it before her PIN will be added; until she has accepted, her PIN will remain in the Pending category in your BBM app.

Add a PIN to a contact. If you already know the PIN, open the contact from your list, then press the menu key and select "Edit." Scroll down and type the PIN in the field. To send a PIN message, simply open the contact, highlight the PIN, then press the menu key and choose the option to PIN that contact.

Find your own PIN. Click on the Options icon on your home screen, then select "Status." You will see your PIN listed, which you can provide to other BlackBerry users you'd like to connect with on Messenger.
